Policy Assistant Job Description
Policy Assistants work with Senior Policy Advisors on the Governor’s Policy Development Team to research and develop initiatives in issue areas that include: economic development, environment/energy, health care, transportation, public safety and homeland security, child welfare and social services, etc.
The position includes assisting in the development of long-term policy initiatives as well as completing short-term research projects and administrative tasks. Responsibilities include gathering issue-specific background information, assisting in the development of policy ideas and initiatives for Illinois, analyzing, synthesizing and presenting information to support policy development, including best practice models from other states.
The Policy Assistant position is an unpaid position and we are seeking candidates who will be available to work a minimum of 10 hours per week during the academic year.
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate should have:
1. Excellent writing and oral communication ability
2. Strong analytical and organizational skills
3. Ability to work well independently as well as in a team situation
4. Capacity to work on tight deadlines while researching long-term projects
