Program Officer, Conservation and Science Programs - Marine Fisheries

The David and Lucile Packard Foundation is recruiting a Program Officer for the Conservation and Science Program. The Program Officer will have responsibility for grantmaking focused on Marine Fisheries. The position is located in Los Altos, California.
The new Program Officer is responsible for the strategic oversight and implementation of grantmaking strategies to achieve the Marine Fisheries Program goals. The Program Officer will develop and implement this strategy working with other Foundation staff and in partnership with other organizations. The Program Officer should be a recognized leader in the field of ocean conservation, actively partnering with grantees and other stakeholders to help lead efforts to protect marine ecosystems. The Program Officer will lead the Foundation's work on marine fisheries, and will work closely with other Conservation and Science staff to coordinate fisheries efforts with the initiatives in the Western Pacific, Gulf of California, California Coast, Marine Birds Conservation, and Science programs.
The Program Officer must have a demonstrated record of success in achieving specific policy and programmatic outcomes. The position calls for a sophisticated ability to think strategically, and to manage complex processes involving multiple institutions and individuals in a team arrangement. The individual should be entrepreneurial, experienced in working with governments, non-governmental organizations, and the private sector. The Program Officer will report to Dr. Walter Reid, Program Director, Conservation and Science Program. The Marine Fisheries team will consist of two Associate Program Officers reporting to the Program Officer and two Program Associates. The Program Officer will be an integral member of the Conservation and Science Program team and will also be an involved member of the Foundation-wide team. The role requires self-direction and decisiveness combined with flexibility and a capacity to give and receive feedback graciously.
