Job Description: The Wisconsin forestry community seeks to protect the native biodiversity, social values, and economic productivity of Wisconsin forests through the development of voluntary Best Management Practices (BMPs) for Invasive Species. Through a collaborative process that includes practitioners, experts, and affected stakeholders, voluntary standards of practice will be developed for prevention, eradication, management and control efforts for invasive plants, insects and diseases of Wisconsin forests. 50% Gather technical information on forest management practices as they affect the spread of invasive species, by conducting literature reviews, compiling monitoring information, and interviewing forestry practitioners. 35% Effectively communicate technical information to other DNR programs and external stakeholders as needed to facilitate the work of teams developing BMPs for Invasive Species, by writing informational and management guidance documents, creating in-house publications, and occasionally giving presentations. 15% Manage logistical needs for teams working on development of BMPs for Invasive Species, including arranging for travel, lodging, meeting rooms, minutes of team meetings, and communications among team members.
Knowledge Required: Applicants must have sufficient training and experience to demonstrate that, upon appointment, the skills and knowledge necessary to perform the tasks have been acquired. Must have experience in organizing and communicationg with diverse teams, and conducting literature reviews. Must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and Outlook. Knowledge of invasive species in Wisconsin and/or the Upper Midwest is desirable, as is the ability to use ArcView GIS. Knowledge of forestry practices is required. Good organizational skills, ability to work independently while exercising sound judgment, and ability to communicate effectively with co-workers and public is required.

Additional Information: This is a half-time position with a maximum of 20 hours a week and 1043 hours a year. Due to the nature of the position, the role of the sucessful candidate will likely shift over the course of the employment term. Travel in Wisconsin, occasionally overnight, is required.
