McCormick Tribune Community Internship

The Irwin W. Steans Center for Community-based Service Learning and Community Service Studies is accepting applications for the McCormick Tribune Community Internship for the 2007/2008 academic year. The McCormick Tribune Foundation has generously established an endowment at DePaul's Steans Center in order to provide funding for internships in community-based organizations that allow DePaul undergraduates to apply their knowledge and skills to benefit an organization while simultaneously providing the student with valuable work experience. This internship is reserved for our best and brightest DePaul undergraduates who have exhibited a commitment to community action, service and academic excellence form all disciplines and departments at DePaul.

Successful applicants will have developed a project in collaboration with a community organization that can take up to two quarters to complete the internship and should utilize the students' individual talents, experiences and academic expertise. Applicants are encouraged to develop an independent study with a faculty member that links the internship experience to academic learning. Interns receive up to $1200 per academic quarter. Applications for consideration will be reviewed by a panel of DePaul faculty, staff, senior level students, community representatives, and Steans Center advisory board members.

Application Criteria:

3.0 GPA

Previous Experience in a minimum of one Community based Service Learning (CbSL) Courses

A Community Service resume that demonstrates substantial commitment to civic engagement and emerging leadership qualities

Proposal for a project that will structure the intern experience (Note: projects are not expected to be finalized prior to the application submittal)

Strength of the applicant's existing community partnership(s)

Ability to Articulate, in an interview, the role of community service in a democratic society
