Aquatic Ecology

Part-time and Full-time Research Technical Positions in Aquatic Ecology

Location: The successful candidates can work at: 1) The Ohio State University’s Aquatic Ecology Laboratory (Columbus, OH; http://ael.osu.edu/); 2) NOAA’s Great Lakes Environmental Research Laboratory (Ann Arbor, MI; http://www.glerl.noaa.gov/); or 3) University of Windsor’s Great Lakes Institute for Environmental Research (GLIER; http://cronus.uwindsor.ca/glier).

Responsibilities: Successful candidates will provide technical assistance to an ongoing project that is exploring how nutrient and sediment inputs from the watershed influence the ecology of Lake Erie yellow perch (http://www.glerl.noaa.gov/res/Task_rpts/2006/epludsin06-1.html). Duties will include extensive field sampling for fish with bongo nets, trawls, and gill nets during late April through July, and laboratory and computer work (e.g., larval fish identification and diets, preparing otoliths for daily growth, ageing, and microchemical analysis, data entry/analysis) during other times of the year.

Qualifications: Candidates for the full-time position must have completed an associate’s or bachelor's degree in the biological sciences or a related field, whereas multiple part-time positions are open to those with a strong academic records and a background/interest in fisheries ecology. Position durations will range from 3 to 12 months, beginning as soon as possible. The appointment duration will depend on the incumbent’s skill sets and time frame.

Salary: Salaries will depend on education and experience (the full-time position ranges $10.24 to $15.42 per hour; the part-time positions range $7.21-10.64 per hour).
